5 Things you should Know About Feed the People today

1. The need in Texas is urgent

5.4 million Texans face food insecurity.
Texas has the second highest food insecurity rate in the nation at 17.6 %
22.5% of children and 13.6% of seniors in Texas struggle with hunger.

This is not a small gap. It is a statewide situation.

2. Faith communities are already leading, but they cannot carry this alone.

Nearly 50% of congregations nationwide operate a food ministry.
In Texas, 72.6% of frontline food pantries are run by faith-based groups.

Churches are doing essential, lifesaving work. But they cannot carry this alone.

3. SNAP feeds millions in Texas

SNAP helped 41.7 million people nationwide in 2025. Every month, 3.2 to 3.5 million Texans rely on SNAP. 76% of participants are families with children. One in three households are working poor. 19% are seniors.

Benefits average 6 dollars per person per day. Every SNAP dollar generates $1.50 dollars in economic activity. In 2024, SNAP delivered 6.97 billion dollars in food assistance in Texas.

Faith based and charitable groups meet about 10 percent of the need. SNAP covers roughly 90 percent. Without SNAP,churches and charities could not replace it.

4. Major funding decisions are ahead

Beginning in 2027, Texas will be required to pay a share of SNAP benefit costs for the first time.

Estimates suggest at least 800 million dollars per year, potentially more.
