Hopeful Harvest Launches a Fully Bilingual, Grocery-Style Food Pantry in Bryan, Texas

In May 2025, Hopeful Harvest, a food pantry envisioned by Mary and Rob Johnson with the support of multiple partners, opened its first permanent location in a local shopping center. The new space offers a fully bilingual, grocery-style pantry where neighbors can shop with dignity and access culturally appropriate food.

This milestone grew out of a vision formed in 2021 during an Episcopal Health Foundation transformation cohort held at St. Andrew’s. It was there that co-founders Mary and Rob Johnson were inspired by a simple but powerful idea: addressing hunger requires staying close to the people experiencing it.

Hopeful Harvest began as a mobile food pantry in partnership with the Brazos Valley Food Bank, serving hundreds of neighbors through Saturday distributions. Volunteers from congregations, nonprofit partners, and Texas A&M came together to meet immediate needs while building toward something more sustainable.

Today, that vision is fully realized. The pantry operates as a welcoming, bilingual space supported by dedicated volunteers, including David Fackler of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in College Station, who contributes to logistics and operations.

Hopeful Harvest continues to grow as a community-centered response to hunger, offering not only food, but dignity, access, and care.
